The Mission for FBC Baton Rouge

FBCBR is here to make disciples in the name of Jesus Christ, for the glory and honor of God.

Our mission is what Jesus Christ our Lord has commanded us to be about each and every day. It is for this reason that Jesus speaks so clearly to us in Matthew 28:18-20 - And Jesus came and said to them, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age."

The Vision for FBC Baton Rouge

We are called together as one body by Almighty God to be a Christ-centered, gospel proclaiming, multigenerational church for the sake of God’s glory in downtown Baton Rouge.

The vision for First Baptist Church of Baton Rouge is the “picture” of how we desire to see the mission of our church take shape. The great news is that the God of the universe who spoke all things into creation and holds all things together by the power of his will (Colossians 1:15-20) will be working in us and through us to see His Vision for his church become a reality.

For the Church:
We see FBC BR as a growing, thriving center for Christian growth and maturity for people of all ages.

For the City:
We see FBC BR becoming a church FOR our city, not just in our city. We see our faith family as a community of believers placed here by God to graciously serve others for the good of those in the city of Baton Rouge. 

For the Nations:
We see FBC BR deeply invested on every continent on earth through church planting, gospel proclamation among unreached people groups, Bible translation projects, and mercy ministries to the world’s most desperate people.

Our Beliefs

The Scriptures
The Bible is the Word of God inspired and without error in Its original manuscripts. It is our only source of authority in matters of faith, conduct and truth.

God the Father
There is one eternal God, personal and knowable who is in Himself three distinct persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. He is worthy of our worship, confidence and obedience.

Jesus Christ
Jesus is the eternal, pre-existent Son of God. He willingly took on the body of a man, was virgin-born, became our sinless substitute, shed His blood on the cross to completely pay for the atonement of our sins. We believe He died, was buried, resurrected in a literal body, ascended into Heaven, and is presently our advocate and only High Priest. We also believe that Jesus will return to establish His Kingdom.

The Holy Spirit
The ministry of the Holy Spirit is to convict the lost, seal the believer and place him or her in the Body of Christ. The fruit of the Holy Spirit in one's life is love. We believe in the baptism with the Holy Spirit at the time of conversion, but we do not believe that any special gift is a necessary evidence of salvation or of being filled with the Spirit.

Humanity
We believe that mankind was created by God in His own image; that he sinned and thereby incurred physical, spiritual and eternal death, which is separation from God; that as a consequence, all human beings are born with a sinful nature and are sinners by choice and therefore under condemnation. We believe that those who repent and forsake sin and trust Jesus Christ as Savior are regenerated by the Holy Spirit and become new creatures, delivered from condemnation and receive eternal life.

The Church
We believe in the universal church, a living spiritual body of which Christ is the head and all regenerated persons are members. We believe in the local church, consisting of a company of believers in Jesus Christ, baptized on a credible profession of faith, and associated for worship, work, and fellowship. We believe that God has laid upon the members of the local church the primary task of giving the gospel of Jesus Christ to a lost world.

Christian Conduct 
We believe that a Christian should live for the glory of God and the well-being of his fellow men; that his conduct should be blameless before the world; that he should be a faithful steward of his possessions; and that he should seek to realize for himself and others the full stature of maturity in Christ.
