2018 Advent Devotional
Advent is for worshiping and adoring Jesus, the incarnate Word of God (John 1:1-2) and the Messiah of God. We celebrate the Advent season annually because Jesus is the Messiah whom God promised to the world. He is here, and He is present among us today because He is alive and well and reigning at the right hand of God the Father. But Advent is also a season of patient waiting, hopeful expectation, and evaluating our own souls as to where our deepest loyalties are placed. But how do we wait for someone who is already here? We are waiting for Him to appear again, in the flesh, to make us finally whole and free from all sin and sorrows. We wait for that day eagerly; and as we wait, we celebrate the revelation of Christ to us now. We are captives rescued and ransomed by Jesus for God. He is here with us, He is “God with us,” our Immanuel:
O come, O come, Immanuel, and ransom captive Israel
that mourns in lonely exile here until the Son of God appear.
Immanuel shall come to you O Israel.
Wait and rejoice! This is the purpose of the Advent season. This devotional booklet is written and designed by YOU, the members of FBC Baton Rouge, to encourage, exhort, and challenge one another in the good news of our Lord Jesus Christ and is rooted in the eternal hope we have in Him alone while we wait. I pray that this Advent season will be one of great gospel rejoicing in the adoration and praise of our Savior Jesus Christ.
